Destiny 2 is moving away from its longstanding annual expansion model after The Final Shape, Bungie announced in a seismic blog post marking the series’ 10-year anniversary and charting its future, and embracing “medium-sized” expansions released twice a year and cut with four annual free updates. The game is also quickly dropping the three-Act Episode model which has become the epilogue to The Final Shape. Beginning in 2025, a paid Destiny 2 expansion will arrive every six months. Each expansion will start a new season, with the season itself being “available to all players,” and free “Major Updates” coming every three months will refresh these seasons and introduce new content of their own. Destiny 2’s next expansion, Codename: Apollo, is set for summer 2025, after the end of the ongoing Episodes and Acts already teed up. It will launch with a major update codenamed Arsenal, and then fall 2025 will see another major update codenamed Surge. Looking further ahead, expansion Codename: Behemoth is set for winter 2025, with its own two major updates to follow. Game director Tyson Green reckons Destiny 2 has “become too rigid,” with expansions starting to feel “too formulaic” and “over too quickly with little replay value.” Likewise, “seasons and Episodes keep getting bigger but can still feel like you are just going through the motions.” Green adds that “it’s time for Destiny to change and evolve,” and that starts with the new expansion model breaking some norms.”We’ve loved creating annual Expansions and are especially proud of The Final Shape,” Green writes. “But the truth is that they dominate almost all our development effort. We need to free ourselves up to explore and innovate with how we deliver Destiny 2 content so we can invest in areas of the game that will feel more impactful to players.” This notably follows word that, despite critical acclaim, The Final Shape reportedly continued the trend of Destiny 2 expansions selling worse and worse year over year. These new “medium-sized” expansions will “depart from the one-shot campaign structure we’ve been using essentially unchanged since Shadowkeep.” It sounds like Bungie is kicking around some pretty out-there ideas, including “exploration experiences similar to the Dreaming City or Metroidvanias” and “more unusual formats like roguelikes or survival shooters.” Narratively, Bungie is shooting for “the mystery and wonder that was woven into the fabric of early Destiny, when the story felt ripe with possibilities and an epic sense of exploration and discovery.” The game’s updated roadmap says expansions will add new locations as well as the expected stories, activities, and gear, and we’ll be going to “places Destiny has never seen before.” Sign up to the GamesRadar+ Newsletter

Everybody calm down! There seems to be some misunderstanding, but I’m not retiring from video game music work!”I’m going to cut back a bit on my video game music work because I want to have more time to make the music I want to make,” Uematsu continues. “It would be difficult for me to take on the entire soundtrack of a video game because the time commitment for composing would be too long, but I would like to continue to work on jobs such as one theme song.”So, we’ve not heard the last of Uematsu’s work yet, which is sure to be a relief for fans. Marvel Rivals is set to launch this December, and NetEase’s answer to Overwatch has certainly piqued my interest. The upcoming hero shooter will pit some of the most famous Marvel heroes and villains against one another, as two teams of six fight for points on the scoreboard and territorial control. A recent Marvel Rivals beta gave us a good sense of what to expect from this free-to-play shooter, with its fast action, lushly presented battlegrounds, and solid 26-character roster. Still, with that launch window fast approaching, there’s still plenty to get up to speed on with this anticipated upcoming Marvel game. So while you wait, why not get up to speed on everything you need to know about Marvel Rivals.Marvel Rivals release date NetEase has confirmed that the Marvel Rivals release date is December 6, 2024! It will also be free-to-play on all platforms listed below, and all 25 heroes will be available to play right away, no unlocking required.Marvel Rivals platforms The Marvel…
For the last two decades, Football Manager has always come out in time for October or November. It’s one of the year’s most reliable sights in league with Call of Duty or Christmas trees, but someone better keep an eye on Santa because Football Manager 2025 has been delayed to next year.Developer Sports Interactive and publisher Sega announced the series’ first delay in 20 years via a blog post, revealing that Football Manager 2025’s November release date had been pushed until next March with “specific platform release dates” still to come. The annual sports series had a minor delay earlier in the year, but the studio explained that “this additional time has not been sufficient to ensure the game quality and experience meets your expectations and our very high standards.” Different areas of production had apparently “been moving slower than we had predicted – despite everyone in the team working at an incredible pace to try and get everything done.”Sports Interactive called Footba…
How long is Metaphor: ReFantazio? I estimate a general playthrough will take between 80 and 90 hours to complete if you pack your in-game calendars with activities like side quests and bond conversations. That playtime will vary significantly, however, depending on how much side content you decide to do, as well as what difficulty you choose.Anyone with experience of Atlus JRPGs like Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 Reload will know not to expect a game you can blast through in one weekend. In the buildup to its launch, Metaphor: ReFantazio director Katsura Hashino teased that we can expect it to run as long as the notoriously chunky Persona 5, but is that true? The short answer is yes, potentially. So let’s look at the specifics. How long to beat Metaphor ReFantazio? For reference, my own playthrough was finished in 87 hours, which I completed on ‘Normal’ difficulty. In that time I completed every possible side quest, bounty request, and bond conversation for my Metaphor: ReFantazio revie…
A genius Legend of Zelda fan has compiled various clips from A Link to the Past and Echoes of Wisdom to show off the similarities between the two Nintendo games – and boy, are there a good few.In a YouTube video showcasing the clips side-by-side, Rebecca Stone highlights portions of both games’ maps to portray just how similar regions in Echoes of Wisdom are to the 1991 classic. Despite some changes to the terrain, the newer game’s Hyrule is evidently the very same one fans grew to love decades ago. It seems there’s just one major difference – Kakariko Village is no longer where it used to be.As longtime Zelda players point out in the comments, “there are what appears to be ruins” in the spot that housed Kakariko Village in A Link to the Past. There are lots of other cool details of note, too – for instance, as one fan explains, “the Gorons, Sea Zora, Deku Scrubs, and Gerudo all live outside the A Link to the Past portion of the map, which retroactively would explain why they weren’t p…
In March 2007, Rockstar revealed the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 4, which prominently featured a boat docking at a ferry terminal. When the actual game launched a year later, the terminal was still there, but the ferries themselves were nowhere to be found. Fans have wondered for years why they were cut from the final game, and now one of the open-world game’s original developers has revealed the answer.”It wasn’t really because of performance,” former Rockstar technical director Obbe Vermeij reveals on Twitter. “It’s more that they were causing other issues with physics (cars sitting on a boat). As well as people queuing and getting on and off. They were more trouble than they were worth.”The Liberty Ferry Terminal first appeared in the “Things Will Be Different” teaser trailer that introduced the world to GTA 4, and it got a fair amount of notice as one of the few concrete things anybody had seen of the game. It’s not as if the cut content caused any notable backlash at the ti…

343 Industries is now Halo Studios, and it’s welcoming a tidal wave of changes to keep up with how “the consumption habits of gamers have changed.”343 Industries, and before that Bungie, were always split between actively making new Halo games while also dedicating resources to update its proprietary tech. But the newly-rebranded Halo Studios has now announced that it’s ditching its own Slipspace Engine in favor of Unreal Engine 5 – a decision that’ll supposedly help the team release its multiple in-development games and post-launch updates quicker than ever before to feed gamers’ gaping appetites.
